FUN FAQS

  • The Simi Valley Police Department was founded in 1971.
  • The Ventura County Fire Department was founded in 1928.
  • The Simi Valley Police Department has 180 sworn/nonsworn personnel.
  • The Ventura County Fire Department has 531 fire personnel.

  • The Ventura County Fire Department covers an area of 848 square miles.

Wait a minute!  Does anyone else see an unbalanced situation here!  I’m thinking Simi PD might want to recruit some players from their neighboring agencies to help out with that score this year… just a thought!
  • The first woman, actually two women, sworn into the Simi Valley Police Department were Toni Pisani & Patty Evans (Hopkins) in 1973.
  • Toni & Patty’s official uniform was a proper white cotton blouse, a black tie and a skirt… yes, I said skirt!  Seriously, they had to perform all tasks of their male counterparts… including basic training, in a skirt!  (Kinda like the whole Ginger Rogers performing the same incredible dancing as Fred Astaire, only backwards thing!)  You ladies Rock!
  • The first female firefighter joined the Ventura County Fire Department in 1986.  No word on whether or not a skirt was issued & no pictures…hmmm …suspicious…
  • When first joining a police or fire agency new recruits must start out clean-shaven and over the years must manifest an enormous mustache that engulfs most of their face.  Stop it!  That’s not fact…just a silly perception …love you guys and your staches!
  • The Simi Valley Police Department has a Chief of Police.
  • The Ventura County Fire Department has a Fire Chief, a Deputy Chief, a Planning & Technology Assistant Chief, an Emergency Services Assistant Chief, a Support Services Assistant Chief & 3 million Battalion Chiefs…. just kidding…there are only 15 or so Battalion Chiefs & we love absolutely every one of you and the incredible work that you do!

More to come…like it or not!

Just a note…our event embodies the friendly competition between our police & fire agencies and is meant for pure entertainment.  We hold the utmost respect for our officers & firefighters & are incredibly appreciative of their good sportsmanship & participation in our event.
